WHAT IS YOUR WORTH

Luke 12:16-40

The worth of a substance is the intrinsic value it possesses.
The quotient value of the internal quality, when measured in monetary power of purchase.

I have reasoned as a man by experience and discovered what he thinks as his worth in relation to $, £, ¢, €, ¥, #, stocked in the bank:

  • His lands and buildings.
  • The furniture and fittings.
  • His stocks, shares, and bonds.
  • The vehicles and yacht.
  • The jewelry, gold, and diamonds.
  • The goodwill in connections.

When a man lives in affluence and comfort, he or she is happy, and sometimes overconfident in himself.
However, no one is beyond the trials and travails of life.

Ecclesiastes 9:12 says:
“For man knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as birds caught in the snare; so are the sons of men, snared in an evil time, when it falleth upon them suddenly.”

King Solomon in Ecclesiastes 10:7 repeated, “I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.”

Let us think on these situations:

  • What happens if death came calling?
  • What happens if there is an earthquake and records are lost?
  • Do you remember the tsunamis?
  • The earthquakes around the world?
  • The hurricanes in America?
  • The present floodings around the world?

Are you aware of the number of people in Bodija Estate in Ibadan that became homeless in the twinkle of an eye?
You are thinking of insurance cover? What if the organization is also consumed?

In the world today, the death of some wealthy individuals brings sorrow into the family.
In Africa, the second and third generational success is rare.
The worth of some—even the wife and children are not aware.
When they die intestate, the banks and the government take a chunk of the wealth.

WHAT IS THE WORTH OF A MAN?
Man was created from dust and to dust shall he return (Gen 3:19b).

Let us think on these things:
A tipper load of sand costs between #20,000 and #25,000 Naira.
At death and decay of a 500 kg human being, he cannot fill a 25-liter bucket.
About 50 units of a 25-liter bucket will be in a tipper load of sand.
It means the 25-liter bucket of sand costs #1,000 maximum.

Therefore, as wealthy as you are, as connected as you are, as beautiful as you are, your worth is just #1,000 of sand.

If so, why are you so full of yourself?

  • You think you have a good job?
  • You think you have arrived?
  • You think you are powerful?
  • You think you are connected?

You are the rich fool.
God created you to perform His pleasures.

1 Corinthians 15:10 says, “But by the grace of God, I am what I am; and His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain.”

How have you been utilizing the grace bestowed upon you?
“Food for the belly, belly for food, one day it shall cease.”

Apostle Paul wrote further in 2 Corinthians 3:5, “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.”

“THINK ON THESE THINGS.”
